The New Consumer Protection Law – preventing unfair business practices

The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia adopted the new Law on Consumer Protection on 09 September 2021.

The most prominent novelty concerns direct marketing by telephone, i.e. the introduction of the “do not call” register.

The law should provide a higher level of consumer protection and prevent unfair business practices, be it hidden costs applied by travel agencies, failure to issue invoices by manual workers or, a chain of promotional messages being sent to your phone.

Compared to the countries in the region, which have already developed some provisions of the law, it is expected that Serbia will achieve a similar result by applying the law more actively.

JPM Partner Jelena Stanković Lukić and our Associate Živko Simjonović provided the full analysis of the law HERE.
